A question we get frequently from our customers is about which type of flexible PVC material is needed for an application: Standard or Low Temp PVC strips. Confusion on this topic can lead to problems after installation and therefore it is critical that it is understood well before placing your order.
What we are talking about here is the chemical formulation that determines the softness and flexibility of the material and the performance of the material when exposed to cold temperatures.
Our engineering team designs different compounds for your different applications:
- Standard strips are used in all different types of ambient temperature applications such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers for separation of rooms and to make partitions and warehouse dividers. Also Standard strips are used for loading dock and other exterior applications. Many customers are surprised to learn that Standard strips designed for refrigeration applications like walk-in coolers, so long as the temperature does not fall below -10 degrees.
- Low Temp strips are made from a softer PVC compound, to remain flexible in extremely cold temperatures, as low as -40 degrees. Due the quantity and type of plasticizer included, they are softer than Standard strips. As a result, Low Temp PVC strips are perfect for freezer applications in food service applications, retail stores, food production facilities, and cold storage warehouses.
In any application where there will be exposure to direct sunlight, Standard material should be used rather than Low Temp, which does not contain UV inhibitors. This is an important consideration for loading docks and other exterior doorways.
